Abstract

The present paper tries to capture the extent of livelihood diversification among the Rabha community of Kamrup(R) district in Assam and its impact on the poverty status of the Rabha households. Two indices viz., Diversification index and Multi-dimensional poverty index have been constructed to look into livelihood diversification and poverty status of the Rabha community. To analyse the impact of livelihood diversification on poverty status among the community households, Tobit regression model is used in the study. The poverty-ridden Rabha households have taken to livelihood diversification as a coping strategy. It is found that livelihood diversification strategy has a significant impact on the poverty status of the households - as livelihood diversification increases, poverty decreases.
