Determinants of Adoption of PM-KISAN Scheme: Empirical Evidence from Jhajjar District in Haryana

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme is funded entirely by the Indian government to provide guaranteed monetary assistance to all eligible farmers. The purpose of the existing study is to determine the factors that influence farmer adoption of the PM-KISAN scheme, as well as to examine the spending patterns of the benefits received by farmers and also to evaluate the scheme’s performance. The field survey was conducted in Jhajjar district of Haryana. A total of 210 farmers, including 148 beneficiaries and 62 non-beneficiaries, were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire. The study uses a probit regression model to find the factors that influence scheme adoption. Results show that farmers with old age, and having registered landholding (farm size) are more likely to adopt the scheme. Farmers who rely on non-farm income are less likely to adopt the scheme. The majority of the benefit money is spent on fertilisers, insecticides, and household consumption by farmers. Farmers reveal that there is an increase in their standard of living and productivity as a result of the scheme.
