Generation of Solid Waste in Rural Tamil Nadu

Abstract

The present paper focuses on the generation of solid waste in rural Tamil Nadu. The study was carried out on various sources of solid waste generation of rural Madurai in Tamil Nadu. It has been observed that the study in agricultural waste was the highest proportion (61.81), among the others are market waste (1.55), biomedical waste (1.5), street sweeping (2.28) and animal waste (15.16) generation in the study area. The relationship between quantum of solid waste generation and population which was negative and the positive relationship between waste generation and expenditure have been the tools used for correlation analysis.
